Well, whether you’re a football fan or not, this weekend you’ll most likely be exposed to SUPER BOWL snacks, even if you’re just watching the half time show! This is one of those weekends when you can get REALLY tripped up, especially if you’re a guest at someone else’s ‘party’! As always, whether you’re hosting or showing up as a guest, the key to having a fun, guilt-free, CLEAN food day is ADVANCE preparation, advance thought!
Ironically, I’m going to be at Angie’s in Florida for the game. We’ll gather with a few friends in her home, so early this week, I started texting her about our ‘snacks’ because I remember TWO years ago when I was there for the Super Bowl... and all I REMEMBER is eating a LOT of homemade cookie dough. I’m sure it also included chips and dip, but I distinctly remember making homemade cookies ( I do have a killer recipe). I was still in the frame of mind that I TREATED myself following a successful work weekend or project accomplished... and the TREAT was with food! OH, can we ever move past our demons? YES!
Like you, I’ve caught several of the morning shows Super Bowl snack suggestions, Foodnetworks suggestions, my local daytime TV suggestions, but ALL of them include ‘splurging’ with high fat, high sugar, ‘treats’! Granted the food looks ‘good’, the question is, “is what you’re about to eat in line with your LIFESTYLE change goals?” Why not approach this wonderful, fun social day differently? What do you really need to satisfy that urge for party foods?
1. Finger food
2. Salty
3. Sweet
4. Treat

Its certain that if you don’t plan, yet you gather with people for the SUPER BOWL, you will have a STRUGGLIN’ Monday! And why go into the FIRST WEEK of FEBRUARY with unnecessary guilt? You know what, GOOD, common sense DAILY choices ‘strung’ together produces an incredible peace about your health, your energy, your body, your future!
FOCUS on the people! Make food the accessory! Plan ahead! And have a wonderful weekend! We enter MONTH 2 of 2009!!
